Though the CDC continues to warn Americans not to travel internationally, the reality is more than two-thirds of the world’s countries, including most of Europe have now reopened to tourists from the United States. The important thing at this time is to stay abreast and updated. Particularly if you have a specific destination in mind as restrictions and guidelines can (and do) change daily. These details are correct as of 07/28/2021. The following is not an exhaustive list but there are some of my favorites that make for great vacations. Who is open?
CROATIA
The U.S. Embassy in Croatia and the Croatian tourism site says, tourists can enter with evidence of paid accommodations and either a vaccine certificate, proof of having recovered from the coronavirus in the previous 12 to 180 days, a negative PCR test taken in the previous 72 hours, or a negative rapid antigen test taken in the previous 48 hours.
FRANCE
France is open to vaccinated visitors who can show proof that they are at least two weeks past the second dose of the Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca vaccines, and four weeks past the single dose of Johnson & Johnson. Those who aren’t vaccinated need to present a negative coronavirus or antigen test conducted within 72 hours before departure.
GREECE
Fully vaccinated tourists two weeks from their last shot can enter without restriction. As can those who show proof of having recovered from a Covid-19 infection in the previous two to nine months. Other visitors 12 and older need a negative test taken 72 hours before arrival. Some travelers will be subject to random rapid tests at the airport.
ITALY
American travelers can present proof of vaccination, a negative molecular or rapid antigen test taken within 48 hours of departure, or a certificate confirming recovery from Covid within the previous six months, will be given a document that allows them to enter the country until July 30 without having to quarantine. Children under 6 are exempt from the pretest and any quarantine.
JAMAICA
Tourists 12 and older, even those who are vaccinated, need a negative test that was taken within three days of travel. Additional tests may be given at the airport.
MEXICO
Land crossings between the United States and Mexico remain closed. U.S. visitors can arrive by plane, without a testing or quarantine requirement. Although as of 08/02/21, travelers will need a vaccination card or a negative test result to enter hotels, restaurants and/or retail facilities due to the rise in cases in Mexico.
NETHERLANDS
There are no travel restrictions for visitors from the United States.
PORTUGAL
Tourists can enter with proof of a negative coronavirus test taken in the previous 72 hours. Or a negative rapid antigen test was taken within 48 hours of boarding, according to the Visit Portugal travel page. Children under 12 do not need to present a test.
