I often wonder what clients think when they see “Luxury Travel Designer”. It might scare some people away because most immediately think “expensive”.
Luxury Travel
But ‘luxury’ doesn’t always translate into more expensive. The important thing is the value you are getting with your experience. I thought I could help anyone with any budget, but I learned quickly that was not the route I was going to take.
I figured out when a client had a very tight budget for a specific destination, the itinerary I could create within their budget, they weren’t happy with the accommodations. So in the end they would always remember that hotel that was not in an ideal location or with the not so great AC, etc.., even though it was within their budget. Its not worth being remembered for.
Lets look at a few things related to ‘luxury’ when it comes to a vacation.
Accommodations
This is one of the most important aspects of a trip. Everyone is very different when it comes to their accommodations. Some prefer a large hotel where others would only stay in a very small boutique property with a local feel. I endeavor to only work with 4 and 5 star properties, as they offer a greater service, better amenities, and the best locations, because I know I wouldn’t be happy with anything less. So it really is all about the value you are getting and not just the cost.
Ground Transportation
Imagine how you will feel arriving at an airport in Europe after an overnight flight. It would be great to have a driver waiting to whisk you away to your accommodations, yes? A private airport transfer is key to starting your vacation no matter what your destination is. That is luxury and comfort!
Excursions/Experiences
I think this is just as important as your accommodations or even more so. Unique experiences will be what you talk about with your friends and family. It may be adventure cycling activities in Italy with a great guide. Or perhaps its an amazing food and wine experience in Paris. Whatever your interests are, you should enjoy authentic local experiences at your destination.
So Luxury does not have to be the most expensive Four Seasons hotel in the world, but it does mean a very comfortable experience where every component of your trip is custom crafted to your preferences, hobbies, and interests. That’s how you should define luxury!
