Who doesn’t love weekend getaways? In the busyness of life sometimes your dream vacation has to take a back seat, but a weekend getaway can be just the thing to leave you feeling refreshed and connected to your partner or family. This week I’m going to share a few of my favorite places to escape for a long weekend.
Savannah, Georgia
When you think about the South, historical Savannah Georgia is sure to come to mind. This charming escape lends itself to ghost stories, trendy boutiques, and colonial architecture.
Spend the day perusing the shops along Broughton or Bull Street. You’ll find everything from fashionable clothing to unique gifts and souvenirs.
If you’re a history buff, you won’t want to miss the historical distrcit where museums are in abundance. If you prefer a guided tour, the old town trolly tour is sure to not disappoint.
Now more than ever, people want to get out and explore and Savannah, Georgia is a great place to start!
Charleston, South Carolina
Southern charm, family-friendly, culture, and exquisite dining are just a few reasons to visit this delightful town. A sure thing not to miss is the City Market fraught with horse-drawn carriage rides, city tours, and sweetgrass baskets.
If being surrounded by the sea for the weekend is your goal, then there is plenty to choose from in and around Savannah. From Folly beach to Kiawah and Sullivan’s Island, there is a plethora of sun and relaxation to be had.
For the foodies out there, this town will not disappoint, but be sure to make a reservation when planning your trip. From fine dining steakhouses to seafood and contemporary faires, Charleston is full of culinary delights to satisfy the most serious gastronome.
Whether it’s a weekend getaway for the family or a romantic getaway with your partner, I highly recommend this endearing town of Charleston.
New Orleans, Louisianna
A personal favorite of mine is the lively town of New Orleans. While most people automatically think of Mardi Gras, there is so much more to this vibrant city!
New Orleans is full of cultural traditions and historical narratives. You can find these in the food and most certainly in the music. The sounds of jazz echo throughout the city and most famously in the French Quarter.
If you’re looking for things to do, I highly suggest signing up for a cooking class and learning how to make the city’s traditional favorites of jambalaya and gumbo.
Santa Barbara, California
This spot nestled along the coast about an hour north of Los Angeles gives you that beach vibe without all the crowds. Enjoy a leisurely walk or bike ride along East Beach and the Santa Barbara harbor. Spend the day checking out the Funk Zone where you’ll find contemporary shops, galleries, and boutiques.
Enjoy wine? Then you can set out on the Urban Wine Trail that takes you through over 20 wine tasting rooms throughout the city. If relaxation is what you crave, then this beach town is not short on spas and beach yoga. No matter what you’re in the mood for, this spot is sure to leave you feeling relaxed and energized.
