Having just returned from an amazing trip to Greece, I wanted to share some wonderful boutique small luxury hotels. These are actually part (well two out of the three here) of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. This brand is all about independent travelers matching with independent spirited hotels. There are 520 hotels in more than 90 countries that fall into this brand. All of these boutique hotels are anti-chain. They tend to average 50 rooms, and the properties are often secluded, discrete and high luxury standards. No two hotels are the same in this brand. Let’s explore two of the brands (and share another just because it was amazing as well).
THE NEW HOTEL
This is the one hotel of the three that was not on the Small Luxury Hotel list. But it was eclectic and boutique-ish in its own way. We stayed at this hotel while in Athens, Greece. This hotel offers a new approach to interior design. All the furniture from the previous hotel was “repurposed” as art in the New Hotel. This hotel boasts 79 rooms, two restaurants, a spa, meeting rooms and a gym. Centrally located, this hotel brand offers amazing customer service and with eclectic design. It is part of the YES hotel brand.
SANTORINI SECRET SUITES AND SPA
Santorini in itself will blow you away with the outstanding views and scenery, and this Small Luxury Hotel brand will as well. Situated in the picturesque village of Oia, this hotel is clinging on to the cliffs, as are most of the hotels in this village. The views overlook the caldera and the Aegean Sea. There are 18 suites which have a veranda with either a private pool or a Jacuzzi. There is an infinity pool overlooking the caldera, fine dining and a small spa to boot! This Small Luxury Hotel has a contemporary feeling with privacy, tons of sunshine and outstanding views. Oh, and let’s not forget, you don’t need a fitness center here, as the stairs up and down will keep you fit and earning your lunch!
ELOUNDA GULF VILLAS
This special property is a Boutique Villa hotel overlooking the Gulf of Mirabello in Crete Greece. This one has 18 private villas, each with their own private infinity pool as well as 15 suites. This is a family-owned property also overlooking the Aegean Sea. This property has two ala carte restaurants, a spa, a private beach club and (when not in times of covid) a kids club and creche for the junior guests. The Massage pool suites (which I had one of these while here) offers a private pool and a private massage room as well. The villas all have a fully equipped kitchen and private pools with Jacuzzi, as well as outstanding views to boot. The people are what make this Small Luxury Hotel though. They are beyond friendly, engaging, interested and attentive.
YOU CAN’T GO WRONG
You cannot go wrong with any of these properties. All will make you feel pampered and well looked after, which enjoying privacy and relaxation.
