We have all been close to home, not traveling abroad as frequently as in the past, and it’s easy to let our passports expire. As the demand rises for international travel it’s certainly a good time to start thinking (or to check) if your passport has expired! Ready for the reopening?
I have had a couple of clients book their trips and then look and see that their passports are expired. Most countries require that your passport is valid for at least 3 months past your return date (some for 6 months past the return date). Our passports are our key to unlocking fascinating destinations.
Cruising
Do you need a passport for a cruise? Most situations do not require a passport for a cruise, although it’s highly recommended. When you depart and return from the same port, you must have proof of citizenship. This could be a passport, a birth certificate, etc. However, should something happen abroad (injury, illness, missing the ship) and if you need to fly home, you will definitely have a problem without a passport.
Still valid?
There are many things beyond the expiration date on a passport. It’s important to remember that passports need a certain number of blank pages as well. Some countries require 1 blank page, while others (such as China, Portugal, and India) require 2 blank pages.
10 years
While it seems like a long time, this can pass in a flash. Of course, with covid 19, passport offices became overwhelmed very quickly once they opened up to passport renewals. Processing times are not quite what they used to be, so be sure to check yours when you are thinking you are ready to travel again! So, are you ready for the reopening?
