As COVID vaccines get even more available, countries are starting to open up for travel once more. As such, it’s time to start looking for some good holiday destinations. After all, they are well overdue. One such location has to be Portugal. This Iberian country might be small, but it offers quite a bit in that limited space. So let’s have a peek at perfect Portugal, shall we?
Classic Cities To Remember
Because Portugal is fairly small, they’ve had a long experience at making quality cities. Their capital, Lisbon, is just one example of that. There is a tram system that will get visitors all around the city for a cheap cost. Tram 28 in particular will deliver you through the historic downtown area. You can see museums, government buildings, historic landmarks and more. Another key highlight has to be the Oceanário de Lisboa, which is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. There are districts around the city, each with its own specialties. Bairro Alto has bars, nightclubs, and plenty of entertainment, while Chiado has all the museums, theaters, and concert halls.
But all the attention should not be focused on Lisbon. Porto, in the north of the country, deserves its own spot in the light. It is Portugal’s second-largest city and matches Lisbon in its public transport system. The Ribeira is the medieval district of the city, located along the Douro River. Plenty of seafood restaurants are here, with many river cruises also available to enjoy. Many others like to cross the river to Vila Nova de Gaia, where quality wine is plentiful. But this is only a small peak at the many wonders Porto offers.
Relax In The Algarve
The Algarve region is one of the most popular in Portugal and it’s no wonder why. The region is sunny, borders the Mediterranean, and has beaches and nature to match just about anywhere in the world. Both large cities of tourists and smaller getaways are here to be explored by all. Go fishing, explore Roman ruins, relax on beaches, experience top-notch cuisine and just generally live life to the max here.
Reach Out To Other Areas
If neither big cities nor relaxing tourist destinations are your things, Portugal still has options. There are unique areas like the fishing village of Ericeira. Near this village is one of the most popular surfing areas in the world. Madeira island is the birthplace of Cristiano Ronaldo and has a museum devoted to the famous footballer. Its capital Funchal is also renowned for the New Year’s parties that go on there. The Azores islands offer whale and dolphin watching excursions for those fans of marine life.
As you can see, Portugal has something for everyone. Wine tasting, fans of history, tourists looking for relaxation, surfers, marine enthusiasts… The list goes on and on. It is a country that has had a large impact on the world during its time. Portugal continues to leave a mark on all who visit. So why don’t you be the next to do so?
