New York City
Hello New York City. I have just visited this vibrant city for the first time over Thanksgiving 2022. This location is so full of activity, people and things to do. We stayed in the Upper West Side (so we could catch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade as well, but we visited several other areas of the city while we were there. Of course, it was certainly more challenging than a normal travel trip for me as I have a broken foot. So I was viewing a lot of New York City from a wheelchair so that my family didn’t have to move as slow as I could walk in my walking cast.
Times Square
Although Times Square in Manhattan is a bit touristy, of course it’s a must do while in New York for the first time. We visited here several times actually during our stay as our dinner reservations for Thanksgiving turned out to be here as well. It is formed by junctions of Broadway, 7th Avenue, 42nd Street and 47th Street. You can find just about everything in this part of the city from Broadway shows to restaurants to shopping and more!
Financial District
The most moving memorial can be found in the Financial District down at the bottom of the Island of Manhattan, the 9/11 Memorial for ground zero. We visited this site as well while in New York City. All the names of the people lost in the horrible attack on the States. A very emotional visit to be sure.
Central Park
No visit would be complete without visiting Central Park as well. We decided to do a carriage ride at night through Central Park. While the grandchildren enjoyed that part of it, I think visiting it during the day would be more memorable. We did get some information about movies that were filmed in the park, such as the snowball scene from Elf, but I don’t feel that we quite enjoyed the vastness of it at night.
I think we could definitely do it more justice on the next trip without the broken foot to slow me down, but so far what is there not to love about New York City. Would you like to visit here too?
