Make someone’s day. I just boarded flight to Vegas for a conference, Virtuoso Travel Week. I am excited to be spend the week meeting new colleagues and partners in the travel industry. It will be a crazy busy week, but worth every minute of it. While I was boarding, I was reminded that this is a service industry. With all things covid, it’s been easily forgotten that it’s okay to be nice to people, to be social, etc. Today’s post is going to be about how we can Make Someone’s Day.
FLIGHT CREW
I recently read someone else’s blog and they commented how appreciative the crew are when you do something nice for them. She brings little gifts to show her appreciation to the flight crew. Today while boarding, I wished I had read her comment sooner, so I could have done that today. I had the friendliest flight attendant when I boarded my United plane to Las Vegas on Monday! She made my very early day and set the tone for the week. The article/comment I read from my colleague was that she brings them things like Starbucks cards or something. What a great idea to help make someone’s day!
RESTAURANT STAFF
Another great example of people that we don’t usually think about doing something for them, more we expect what they will do for us. Of course, we tip them for great service, but what about just seeing how you could make their day better? Maybe its as simple as a comment about their appearance or maybe it’s a small GC for Amazon. What ideas do you have for your wait staff that is not about how much you spend, but just trying to improve their long days?
POLICE, DOCTORS, NURSES
These people work very hard to keep us safe, healthy and more! What better way might there be to show them appreciation? You could bring a vase of flowers to your doctor’s office. Or if you have a connection with a particular hospital, you could bring flowers to the nurse’s station. Stopping by a local sandwich shop for a nice lunch would bring a smile to some faces for sure.
BE GRATEFUL
Most of all, just letting them all know that you appreciate them will go a long way. Smile, compliment or just have a quick chat could improve their day as well as yours. Let’s all try and make someone’s day!
