London Highlights
I thought this week might be a good time for a blog on London Highlights with the Queen’s passing recently. From a travel perspective it was either a great time – or – based on your opinion, a bad time to be in London. The crowds were massive with 5 mile long queues to visit the queen in state. British Airways reported that 15% of all flights were for the funeral. May she rest in peace after such an amazingly long and respected reign.
Tower of London
To follow along with the comments above, there were quite a few tourist sites that didn’t operate during this week due to the Queen’s passing. The Tower of London was one of them closed for 10 days. This one will reopen on the 19th of September, 2022. The Tower of London houses the Crown Jewels. The Tower was built by Henry III for his residence. I won’t go deep into all the history of the Tower, but it is a must see when visiting in London.
Warner Bros Studio London
Home to all things Harry Potter, this is a great place to visit if you are a long standing fan. Would you like to shop on Diagon Alley? Are you craving a Butterbeer? Are you a fan of Quidditch? We you can immerse yourself in all of these things here at Warner Bros Studio London. They offer fully guided Making of Harry Potter tours here. A must for Harry Potter fans for sure. Dobby was always my favorite character. We named our Roomba after Dobby.
Westminster Abbey
The Westminster Abbey is one of the most Iconic buildings for tourists to visit. Over 1000 years of history awaits you when you visit this Abbey. From is gothic architecture to the history of religion and the monarchy. Of course this was also where Queen Elizabeth II laid in state for others to mourn her death. This iconic building has been around since 960AD. It’s also the resting place for over 3000 great Britons. You can also click here to virtually explore this amazing church.
Of course, there are a bunch more things we could add to this list. The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the London Eye, a visit to Stonehenge? Afternoon Tea, a must do in London. Maybe you are a Downton Abbey fan and need to see Highclere Castle in person. Whatever your interests are, I can help you explore London and more of England, the UK etc. Click the button below to start the conversation. Long live King Charles!
