Italy, My Italy
I love all things Italian, but what happens when you have been to the top three locations of Rome, Florence, and Venice? Well, then it’s time to explore Italy more thoroughly and beyond the top three destinations. Italy, my Italy, so much to do and see! In this blog, let’s explore more of the Southern part of Italy. I had the pleasure of a familiarization trip exploring this region in 2019.
Visit Pompeii
A city frozen in time after Mt. Vesuvius erupted over 2000 years ago. The city was quickly covered buried by volcanic ash preserving the city underneath. I have visited Pompeii several times and each time I am in awe of how the ash kept everything frozen in time. You can take a day from Rome to see it, but it is closer to Naples.
Take a Boat to Capri
Capri is known for being elite and famous since the 1960s. You can take a ferry or a boat from Sorrento, Naples, or the Amalfi Coast and arrive at the tout suite. The Isle of Capri is also known for its high-end shopping. It has as the lift to the top of the mountain for spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Be sure to stop for a coffee in the piazza and people watch (also a favorite pastime of mine).
Visit Puglia
In the Southern Italian Region of Puglia, there are these amazing little limestone dwellings called Trulli. These were created with a prehistoric building technique of drywall (mortarless), and this technique is still used today in this region. They have conical roofs built up of limestone slabs. While these Trulli dwellings can be found all along the valley, the highest concentration of them is found in Alberobello. You can see over 1500 structures. I had the pleasure of going inside these structures while there in 2019 and they were remarkably chilly inside. This region is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Of course, there are many other recommendations and experiences I could offer up for Italy, or more specifically the Southern region, these are just a few suggestions. This country is my specialty, if you would like to explore some options for an Italian vacation, let’s set up a consultation to discuss where you want to visit here.
