Hidden Treasures In Europe
Discovering secret, hidden places is one of my favorite pastimes. While indulging in touristy adventures and experiences is a fun part of exploring new places, going into lesser known parts of a city or country is truly where it’s at. It allows you to uncover a new side, or even the true essence, of wherever you’re at and can make for unique memories. Here is a short list of some hidden treasures in Europe.
Hey STHLM
While there are more acclaimed video game exhibits at formal museums, why not get a little mysterious and visit this hidden arcade that features games that are very rarely seen outside of Japan. Hey STHLM is one of the largest of such arcade machine collections in northern Europe. Whether it’s for the atmosphere, the entertainment, or even some awesome looking pictures, this hidden treasure is one to visit.
Liquidrom
There’s really no words to say about this location other than “how cool?!” Once a massive train station during World War II, Liquidrom is an ultra-modern spa that has tons of baths and saunas. It has a delicate ambiance of low lighting, multi-colored lights, and music meant to be listened to underwater. That’s enough to make this a true hidden treasure.
Schmetterlinghaus: The Imperial Butterfly Park
Location: Vienna, Austria
Treasure: A Tropical Oasis in the heart of Vienna filled with hundreds of butterflies
What can be more relaxing than admiring the beautiful, natural gift of butterflies? Schmetterlinghaus is a greenhouse filled with a lush, tropical landscape, aesthetic waterfalls, and of course, tons of butterflies. These butterflies freely fly throughout the habitat and are the perfect highlight for a family day out.
De Poezenboot (The Cat Boat)
I hope this post only served to make you realize that there’s so many quirky, unique spots around the world. Yes, you’re going to be compelled to visit famous landmarks like the Louvre, or Big Ben, but I encourage you to fit some of these hidden treasures in your itinerary.
