Richard and I stayed at the Savoia Hotel Regency in Bologna in 2017. It’s a beautiful hotel that feels very fancy but has great prices. Our favorite restaurant in Bologna was Garganelli restaurant in the hotel. This restaurant is all about a refined and elegant environment. The space is modern and classic at the same time.
Fancy But Reasonably Priced
When you walk in, it feels very fancy, it is fancy but isn’t “fancy” expensive. It’s the perfect place for dinner, even if you are not staying at the hotel. Here you are able to discover Italian food at its finest tradition. The service is wonderful, and the food speaks for itself. They have a wonderful selection of entrees and the wine list is excellent. In nice weather, the outdoor seating is very pleasant.
Don’t Miss Items
Don’t miss the Battuta di Fassona. This is a delicious appetizer that engages the tastebuds. This is steak tartar Piedmont style. It is made from white cows and appeared in the late 1800s in Piedmont. This type of meat is leaner than most beef, so it’s great for those watching their waistline.
Pasta and Wine
I am all about pasta! And what goes better with a hearty pasta dish than wine! This restaurant had a great wine list and of course, had my favorite Italian wine of the time, Amarone! Amarone is from the Veneto/Valpolicella area. They dry the grapes, then slowly press the dried grapes before fermenting. It’s a heavy red wine, but oh so delicious.
There are many wonderful places to eat in Bologna, especially if you love Bolognese, pasta, Parma ham, and more. Are you itching to explore Italy? Bologna is off the beaten path and delightful to visit. Let me know if you would like to plan an amazing trip to Italy here.
