Caribbean Winter Escape
This winter is going to be a different experience for everyone- especially those used to taking a winter vacation. COVID-19 has shut down many of the paths and destinations that we’ve become used to over the years. Fortunately, not every vacation spot has been closed. The sunshine and beaches of Caribbean destinations continue to be open, albeit with safety restrictions in place. So let’s take a look at some of these islands and continue on to The Caribbean Winter Escape!
Barbados
Barbados is one of those Caribbean locations that just never disappoints. It rarely dips below 70 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s got picturesque beaches and luxury resorts aplenty. For the latter, you can find the Cobblers Cove Hotel and the Coral Reef Club on the west coast. You’ll be able to get local Bajan food for around $9 or $12, giving a taste of island life.
There are some travel restrictions for those coming from the US. You’ll need a negative COVID test within 3 days before arrival. You’ll also be retested 4-5 days after arrival for safety.
Normally, the winter months are the most expensive for Barbados. However, this year could show a drop in price as companies want to get people to the island. An attractive prospect indeed!
Dominican Republic
The beauty of the Dominican Republic might only be matched by its rich and storied history. The Zona Colonial shall give you a glimpse at the 16th-century Spanish colony – both good and bad. For a more modern luxury experience, you can stay at the Tortuga Bay Puntacana Resort and Club. Here, experience the fabulous local tostones. These are plantain patties that are fried, a favorite among the local populace.
There are very few travel restrictions in place here. Only passengers who are displaying symptoms of COVID will be tested upon arrival. Social distancing is still mandated.
Once again, the winter tends to be more crowded and more expensive. However, with the pandemic, the prices are likely to drop with the decrease in crowds.
Turks and Caicos
A regular amidst those seeking relief in the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos can still provide a winter destination. The clear waters, fantastic seafood, and local culture are all a joy that cannot be missed. The COMO Parrot Cay provides a luxury location to stay for those who are looking for such. Deep-sea fishing and the Thursday night fish fry provide an abundance of treats for all visitors.
There are a fair amount of restrictions in place for COVID, which can be found on the government’s website. However, it is still open to travelers from high-risk areas.
Yet again, the pandemic has impacted prices leading to Providenciales International Airport (PLS). The winter might cost more regularly, but you might get a steal for this one.
These are just some of the options still available in the Caribbean region. Anguila, St. Kitts & Nevis and the Bahamas are some of the others. You’ll just need to keep in mind the restrictions from each island and respect them. But once that’s clear, feel free to enjoy all they have to offer once the winter comes!
