The EES is an automated IT system designed to keep better track of visits by nationals from countries outside the EU who do not require a visa for short stays. It aims to replace the current method of manual stamping of passports at EU borders. This will be in place starting November 10th 2024.

Don’t Stress: You don’t currently need to do anything differently. There is no application process or need to carry anything different that you normally would, i.e. a passport. This is purely a change in how the border control will collect and use your data. Before crossing the border, each visitor will have their fingerprints and a facial ID scan taken, as well as a passport check by a border official. This all happens at the point of travel, and you don’t need to arrange or apply for anything in advance.
